Dr. Andrew Smith had a passion for horses from a young age and started riding cutting horses when he was a teenager. Dr. Smith graduated from North Carolina State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009 and stayed on to do a one-year rotating internship in equine medicine and surgery. He then completed two internships before starting his residency at the University of Florida, which he completed in 2014. During his residency, Dr. Smith work on a grant studying the effects of gene therapy on osteoarthritis. Dr. Smith focused on diagnostic imaging findings, specifically MRI, following a post-traumatic injury in horses and completed a PhD at the University of Florida, and was subsequently hired as a clinical faculty member. He became certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgery in 2017 and became a certified veterinary medical manipulation practitioner in 2019. Dr. Smith worked at Woodside Equine Clinic in Virginia for 2 years and has made his way back to Florida to work at Peterson Smith as an Associate Surgeon.
