Summer is coming to an end and as we say farewell to our Hospital Summer 2023 undergraduate interns, we asked each of them about their experience at Peterson Smith Equine Hospital + Complete Care. Here is what they had to say.
Margaret A Giffin
“I’m from St. Petersburg, Florida and attend Florida State University. I chose Peterson Smith because I wanted to get experience in equine medicine, a friend of mine had interned here and highly recommended it. I loved learning about ophthalmology from Dr. Brooks.”
Margaret plans to attend the Royal Veterinary College of London this fall.
Katherine Hodges
“I got to the College of Central Florida, and I chose Peterson Smith because of my professor’s recommendation, their reputation and I use them as my equine vet. I liked learning about the variety of horse breeds, disciplines, and foals Peterson Smith works with.”
Katherine plans to finish her undergraduate program and apply to vet school.
Rachel Marquis
“I go to Texas A&M University and after some research, I chose Peterson Smith because I wanted to expand on my equine experience before deciding to pursue veterinary medicine. The most valuable lesson I learned was adapting to different types of horses and disciplines.”
Rachel plans to finish her undergraduate in Animal Science and apply to vet school to specialize in equine medicine.
Mackenzie Montandon
“I’m from St. Louis, Missouri, and attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. I chose Peterson Smith because it was highly recommended by multiple veterinarians and equine professionals. I know Peterson Smith is a prestigious equine hospital and a place where people wanted me to gain experience. The most valuable lesson I learned was understanding the day-to-day operations of a reputable equine hospital.”
Mackenzie will complete her senior year at SMU before applying to vet school.
Amber Robeson
“I go to the University of Findley, and I chose Peterson Smith because it was recommended to me by my advisor. I believe this was a fantastic facility to gain large animal experience. The most valuable lesson was being able to connect what I learned in school and applying it to the real world.”
Amber will be finishing out her bachelor’s degree in Pre-Vet/Animal Science at The University of Findlay with hopes of continuing her education at vet school after graduation.
Ashlyn Rosso
“I go to Ohio University studying veterinary medicine and I chose Peterson Smith because I have a lot of equine experience back home but needed veterinary experience. The most valuable lesson I learned was client communication.”
Ashlyn will be working at a small animal emergency clinic while completing her senior year of undergraduate.
Alexis Soto Schiner
“I’m from Southern California and go The University of Findley in Northwest Ohio. I picked Peterson Smith because I wanted equine experience before I go to vet school and Peterson Smith would offer a wide variety of those experiences. I loved learning how the vets interacted with client.”
Alexis will be entering her senior year of undergraduate degree in Findlay before applying vet school.
